Favorite Quotes From The Book of Wally"Creation, a drug I can't live with out" - Cecil B. De Milles "Live simply so others may simply live" - Mahatma Ghandi "Man is a creature who can't wait ten minutes for a woman, but will sit motionless for hours for a small fish." - unknown "Pay no attention to what the critics say. A statue has never been erected in honor of a critic." - Jean Sibelius (1865-1957) A musician cannot delight you with his playing unless he himself delights to play. - Khalil Gabran Sweets Edison, discussing a drummer. Sweets: "I don't think you're gonna like the drummer..." "Oh really, how come?" Sweets: "He's busy man... real busy." "How busy?" "Busier than a cat tryin' to cover shit up on a marble floor." Learning and attempting to understand anothers cultural history, allows us to step out of ourselves and look at situations and responses to situations from one anothers perspective. It makes one less judgmental and more tolerant of anothers way of doing and seeing. Instead, we can support and enjoy these differences, instead of being threatened by them. Memory is a history of ones identity. Why one should study history:
Living on Earth is expensive, but it does include a free trip around the sun. Birthdays are good for you; the more you have, the longer you live. How long a minute is depends on what side of the bathroom door you're on. Ever notice that the people who are late are often much jollier than the people who have to wait for them? Most of us go to our grave with our music still inside of us. You may be only one person in the world, but you may also be the world to one person. Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once. Don't cry because it's over; smile because it happened. We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors.... but they all have to learn to live in the same box. A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour. Happiness comes through doors you didn't even know you left open. It's so simple to be wise. Just think of something stupid to say and then don't say it. If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you. If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of car payments. No one is listening until you make a mistake. Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it. A closed mouth gathers no food. Duct tape is like the Force. It has a light side & a dark side, and it holds the universe together. If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it. A verbal contract isn't worth the paper it's written on. There's more scum in the music business than in Wall St. In Wall St. it is visible. In the music business it's hidden behind the music. 23rd Pslam for BassistsThe Lord is my drummer; I shall not rush. He maketh me to lay out in tasteful places; He leadeth me beside cool meter changes; He restoreth my "one". He leadeth me in the right repeats For His name's sake. Yea, though I read through the trickiest road maps, I will fear no train wrecks; For You are with it; Your ride and Your snare, they comfort me. You setteth up a solo for me In the presence of mine guitarists; You annointeth my lines with drive; My groove overfloweth. Surely good feel and swing will follow me All the tunes of each set; And I will dwell in the pocket The whole gig long. Some Things To Be Thankful For....For the times I complain of the weight of the instruments I'm carrying, cause I own my instruments. For weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day, because it means I have been capable of working hard. For the pile of laundry and ironing, because it means I have clothes to wear. For the mess to clean after a party, because it means that I have been surrounded by friends. For my shadow that watches me work, because it means I am out in the sunshine. For all the complaining I hear about the government, because it means that we have freedom of speech. For the parking spot I find at the far end of the parking lot, because it means I am capable of walking and that I have been blessed with transportation. For the lady behind me in church that sings off key, because it means that I can hear. For my huge power and water bill, because it means I am warm and have running water. For the clothes that fit a little too snug, because it means I have enough to eat. For a lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning, and gutters that need fixing, because it means I have a home. For the alarm that goes off in the early morning hours, because it means that I am alive. For too much e-mail, because it means I have friends and family who are thinking of me. An old man, a boy and a donkey were going to town. The boy rode on the donkey and the old man walked. As they went along they passed some people who remarked it was a shame the old man was walking and the boy was riding. The man and boy thought maybe the critics were right, so they changed positions. Later, they passed some people that remarked, What a shame, he makes that little boy walk. They then decided they both would walk. Soon they passed some more people who thought they were stupid to walk when they had a decent donkey to ride. So, they both rode the donkey. Now they passed some people that shamed them by saying how awful to put such a load on a poor donkey. The boy and man said they were probably right, so they decided to carry the donkey. As they crossed the bridge, they lost their grip on the animal and he fell into the river and drowned. The moral of the story? |
